Use tags to create alternate rollups without updating your hierarchy.
Setting the Stage
- Who am I?
- I'm an FP&A Analyst at Sample Co. My main job function is to maintain Sample Co's financial models and create financial reports for management.
- What am I trying to do?
- Use Cube to create a report that shows how much Sample Co is spending on Fixed vs. Variable costs.
- How would I do this?
- Tag the dimensions!
Tagging the Dimensions
First, I'll navigate to the Dimensions page, select Telephone & Internet and add a tag called Fixed Cost.
Next, I'll add a Variable Cost tag to Repairs & Maintenance via its Edit Dimension page as well. Now that I've added these tags to Cube, I can tag the rest of the accounts at once on the Tags page.
Note that I tagged Travel & Entertainment and none of its children; if you tag a parent dimension, then all of its children are associated with the tag as well.
Fetching Data to Tags
Next, I can create a new range by building an account tag range.
Or if you have a pre-formatted range that you're looking to register, you'll want to use Select Existing.
Now that I've set up my tags, I'll click Fetch Data to write values to them.
