Cube Boards is a built-in dashboarding and visual reporting experience within the Cube web platform. It lets you build interactive dashboards using the same dimensions, hierarchies, and data you already use in Cube.
Boards connect directly to your live Cube data. There are no scheduled syncs or manual exports. When you open a board or refresh a widget, you're seeing current data.
What you can do with Boards
With Boards, you can:
- Build visual dashboards with charts, tables, metrics, and text directly in the Cube web platform
- Use the same Rows, Columns, and Filters model from the spreadsheet apps to configure widgets
- Choose from multiple chart types: Bar, Line, Pie, Donut, Table, Metric, Row, Combo, Waterfall, and Text
- Trend and Report Widgets coming soon
- Set your own custom color scheme to align with organizational branding
- Organize content across multiple tabs within a single board
- Apply board-level filters that update every widget at once
- Share boards with your team and control who can view or manage them
- Duplicate boards and reuse widgets across different boards
- Customize chart styling, number formatting, colors, and labels per widget
How Boards work
Boards landing page
The Boards section is accessible from the left navigation in the Cube web platform. The landing page displays all boards you have access to. From here you can create a new board, open an existing one, or duplicate a board.
Note: Legacy dashboards can now be found under Cube BI in the side navigation
Building a board
When you create or edit a board, you enter Edit Mode. In Edit Mode you can:
- Name your board by typing directly in the title area at the top.
- Add tabs to organize widgets into separate views within the same board.
- Add widgets using the widget picker. You can build a new widget from scratch, add a text block, or insert an existing widget from another board.
- Configure widget data by dragging dimensions into Rows, Columns, and Filters, then selecting a chart type.
- Preview your widget before inserting it. The preview modal lets you adjust data, styling, and formatting in real time.
- Position and resize widgets by dragging them on the canvas.
- Save to exit Edit Mode and make the board available to others.
Configuring a widget
Each widget is configured using three tabs in the preview modal:
Edit Data - Set the dimensions for Rows, Columns, and Filters. Swap X and Y axes. Choose which dimension members to include. Toggle zero-row suppression.
Style Widget - Set the widget name, show or hide the legend, adjust legend alignment, and configure X-axis and Y-axis labels.
Format Details - Toggle data point labels, stacking, and goal lines. Set number formatting (decimals, display format) and colors on a per-series basis.
You can also toggle between the chart view and a table preview of the underlying data at any time.
Board filters
You can add board-level filters that apply to every widget on the board. Filters are configured in Edit Mode and are based on your Cube dimensions: Account, Department, Time, Entity, Product, Market, and Scenario.
For each filter, you choose which dimension members appear in the dropdown and set a default value. When someone viewing the board changes a filter, all widgets update to reflect the selection.
Sharing and permissions
After saving a board, click the Share button to control access. You can set permissions to one of three levels:
- Board Managers Only: Only users with manager permissions can view the board.
- All Users: Every Cube user in your workspace can view the board.
- Specific Team Members: Choose individual users or teams who can access the board.
Sharing generates a link that only users with the appropriate permissions can open.
Color themes
Workspace administrators can customize the color palette used across all boards in the organization. This is configured in the Boards section and applies to chart colors for every board in the workspace.
Data and security
- Boards display live data from your Cube connection. No data is cached or stored separately.
- All data access respects your Cube user permissions and security roles. Users only see data they have permission to access.
- Boards uses the same dimension model, hierarchies, and entity/currency settings as the rest of the Cube platform.
Things to keep in mind
- Boards are accessible from the Cube web platform. It is not currently available inside the Excel or Google Sheets apps.
- Widget data refreshes when you open a board or click the refresh button. Data is not auto-refreshing on a timer.
- You can move widgets between tabs within the same board using the widget menu.
- Existing widgets from other boards can be inserted without rebuilding them.
- Boards is currently in beta. Some features are still being added. See upcoming enhancements.
