Drilldown lets you go from an aggregated value in a Board widget or Web Report to the underlying transaction-level data behind it. Use it to investigate a number, audit a balance, or trace a specific intersection back to its source records.
When you drill down, Cube opens a new browser tab pre-populated with the dimension members at the intersection you selected, plus the surface-level filters applied. The drilldown view itself is the same across Boards and Web Reports: a transaction-level table that can be exported.
Where drilldown is available
Drilldown is supported on:
- Board widgets: Bar, Line, Combo, Row, Pie, Donut, Waterfall, Trend, Metric, and Table.
- Web Reports.
For information on drilldown from the Cube spreadsheet apps (Excel and Google Sheets), see the spreadsheet drilldown article.
Drilldown from a Board widget
Drilldown is only available in Board View Mode. It does not appear in Edit Mode or in the widget Preview modal.
Chart widgets (Bar, Line, Combo, Row, Pie, Donut, Waterfall, Trend, Metric):
- Hover over a data point on the chart. Cube highlights the intersection.
- Click the data point. A context menu appears with a Drilldown option.
- Select Drilldown. A new browser tab opens showing the underlying transaction-level data.
Table widgets:
- Click a data cell in the table. A context menu appears with a Drilldown option.
- Select Drilldown. A new browser tab opens showing the underlying transaction-level data.
For Trend widgets, drilldown returns data for the base column (the leftmost column in the Columns order).
Drilldown from a Web Report
- Click any data cell in the report to select it.
- Click the Drilldown button in the top-right toolbar.
- A new browser tab opens showing the underlying transaction-level data for the selected cell.
Drilldown is only available on data cells. It is not available on header rows, total rows, or calculated rows.
What's in the drilldown view
The drilldown tab opens with the title {Widget or Report Name} - Drilldown and displays a transaction-level table containing:
- All dimension columns (Account, Department, Scenario, Time, Entity, Product, Market, etc.)
- The transaction value
- Source metadata (Source Integration, Source Type, Last Modified Date, transaction code, transaction date, memo)
The drilldown view inherits both the dimension members at the intersection you clicked and any filters applied at the widget or report level.
Exporting drilldown data
Use the Export button in the top-right of the drilldown view to download the underlying transactions. Standard export formats apply.
Permissions
Drilldown respects existing RBAC permissions. Users can only drill down into intersections within their Data Access Scope. If an intersection contains data the user does not have access to, those rows are excluded from the drilldown results.
Things to note
- Boards drilldown is View Mode only. It does not appear in Edit Mode or Widget Preview.
- Web Reports drilldown requires a selected data cell. The Drilldown button uses the currently selected cell as the source intersection.
- Data cells only. Drilldown is not available on header, total, or calculated rows in Web Reports.
