To connect your Campfire instance to Cube, your Implementation Manager will need two things: a Campfire API key and your Campfire instance name. The steps below walk through how to generate both. This should take about five minutes and requires admin access in Campfire.
1. Open the API key settings in Campfire
- In Campfire, open the left-hand sidebar.
- Go to Settings.
- Scroll down to Developer, then select API keys.
2. Create a dedicated Cube integration user
We recommend creating a separate user for the Cube connection rather than using a personal account. This keeps the integration stable if team members change and makes access easy to audit or revoke later.
- In the API keys section, click New user.
- Name the user Cube integration user.
- Set the email to connector+[your company name]@cubesoftware.com (for example, connector+acme@cubesoftware.com).
- Check the box for Super admin. The integration needs this level of access to read your full chart of accounts and transaction detail.
- Save the user.
3. Generate the API key
- With the new user created, click Create API key.
- Copy the generated key and store it somewhere safe. Campfire displays the full key only once; if it’s lost, you’ll need to generate a new one.
4. Locate your Campfire instance name
- Your instance name appears in bold in the bottom-left corner of the Campfire interface.
- Copy it exactly as shown.
5. Securely send the details to your Cube Implementation Manager
Because the API key grants admin-level access to your Campfire data, please don’t paste it directly into an email or chat message. Instead, use One-Time Secret, a free tool that creates a link that can be viewed only once and then self-destructs.
- Go to https://onetimesecret.com/.
- In the text box, enter both values, one per line:
- Campfire instance name
- Campfire API key
- Click Create a secret link.
- Copy the generated link and email it to your Cube IM.
Your IM will open the link to retrieve the details, after which the link expires automatically. If the link is accidentally opened by anyone else before your IM sees it, let us know right away and we’ll ask you to generate a new API key.
Once we have both items, your IM will complete the connection setup in Cube and let you know when the initial data import is ready for review.
Having trouble?
If you don’t see the Developer or API keys options in Settings, your Campfire account may not have admin permissions. Check with your Campfire administrator or reach out to your Cube IM.
