Before we start - let's make sure this is the right how-to guide for you:
- Looking to add a top-level dimension? Reach out to our support team.
- Are you adding a new dimension that’s not connected to a source system? Learn how to add a dimension below.
- Are you mapping new source data and need to add a dimension? Consider setting a mapping rule to automatically handle unmapped source dimensions or learn how to add a new dimension while mapping.
Add a dimension from the Dimensions page
Adding a new dimension from the Dimensions page is useful if you need to add accounts that aren't mapped to a source system, or new dimensions under any other top-level dimension in your Cube. If you need to add many new accounts while mapping data from your source system, scroll down to see how to add new dimensions while mapping.
1. Click +Create in the top-right of the Dimensions page and then choose the type of dimension you wish to add.
Most dimension types will have additional fields for you to complete.
2. Fill out the following details:
- Name: must be unique
- Parent: determines where the dimension member lives in the hierarchy
- Time Rollup Type: determines how months are summarized (sum, balance, or average)
Optional fields include:
- Account Number: input the GL Account Number
- Description: input a brief description of the associated dimension
- Tags: include this dimension in an existing tag
You can also create a dimension using a formula.
Add a new time dimension
If you are adding a time dimension, simply select the year you wish to add and Cube will add the time dimension structure your Cube has been set up to follow.
After you've added the designated fields, click Save. A confirmation message will appear at the bottom right of the screen.
And your dimension is now added!
Please note that if you have custom time dimensions, our support team will need to add new ones for you. Please reach out to them for assistance.
Add dimensions in bulk
Need to add a list of new vendors or accounts? Use our bulk add dimensions feature to quickly add many dimensions to your hierarchy all at once by uploading a file or manually typing the new dimensions.
- From the Dimensions page, click +Create, then Dimension, then Add in bulk.
- Next, you can download a template if you don’t already have a file created and don’t want to manually type the dimension names. If you prefer to manually enter the dimensions, you can click Next, select Manually enter data, and skip to step 4.
- Following the directions in the template, add the new dimensions and their parent dimensions to the second tab. When you’re finished, save your file and return to the Web portal.
- Click Next and choose to upload the file you just created or manually enter the dimensions.
- Validate your dimensions and then upload them to Cube. They will appear in your dimension hierarchy.
Quick add a dimension while mapping
For dimensions that don't yet exist, consider setting a mapping rule to automatically map dimensions or manually add them to your Cube hierarchy directly from the mapping page using the steps below. Learn more about mapping.

Important notes about new dimensions
- Team members who have access to a parent dimension will automatically have access to any new child dimensions. Learn how to adjust team member permissions.
- Dimensions can be reordered or reparented. Changing your dimension hierarchy may change how data rolls up to parent dimensions.
