If your import fails with a missing rate error and you use Custom rate overrides in Cube, the most common cause is that rates have not been added for the new period you are importing.
Unlike other rate types, Custom rates are not updated automatically. You must manually add a rate for every new time period.
If an import includes a period where a Custom override does not have a rate configured, the import will fail.
This behavior applies to all source systems, including:
- NetSuite
- QuickBooks Online
- Xero
- Flat file imports
Any Cube account using Custom rate overrides must add rates manually for each new period.
How To Add Rates for a New Period
Enter Rates Directly in Cube
Use this option if you only need to update a small number of rates.
- In the Workspace, open the Currencies page.
- On the Exchange Rates tab, select Edit Rates.
- Find the override for the affected account and currency pair.
- Add the rate for the new period.
- Save your changes.
- Retry the import.
Upload a Rate File
If you need to update many rates at once, uploading a rate file is typically faster (not available for NetSuite connections).
- In the Workspace, open the Currencies page.
- Select Edit Rates, then select Download to export your current rate file.
- Add the new period’s rates to the file.
- The first tab of the file includes formatting instructions.
- Upload the updated file using Import Conversion Rates.
- Wait for the confirmation email before retrying the import.
How To Confirm This Is the Issue
To verify whether a missing Custom rate is causing the import failure:
- Open the Currencies page in Cube.
- Review the Exchange Rates tab for the period you are importing.
- Check whether any override has a blank rate value for that period.
If a rate is missing, the import will fail until the rate is added.
Best Practice
Tip
If an exchange rate is stable and unlikely to change between periods, consider switching the override from Custom to Constant rate.Constant rates automatically carry forward to future periods and do not require manual updates each month. See Rate Settings for Multi-Currency by Account for more information about available rate types.
